In short

A new study from the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM) and the Digital Supply Chain Institute (DSCI), titled The People Paradox in Supply Chain AI Integration, finds that 83% of companies say their workers are unprepared to use AI effectively, even though 91% plan to use AI to augment human workers. Across 13 core supply chain functions, average AI adoption reaches only 1.94 on a five-point autonomy scale, with demand planning leading (2.28) and reverse logistics trailing (1.59). The report identifies workforce skills, unclear ROI, data quality and cybersecurity as the main barriers, and notes that organizations with AI-ready workforces deploy AI across six functions on average with a 71% project success rate.
