In short

KDDI and its AI subsidiary Elyza have established Elyza Robotics, a physical AI company that began operations on October 1 and plans to invest roughly $190 million (30 billion yen) in R&D while deploying more than 1,000 robots at working sites by fiscal 2030. The unit will develop robot foundation models, vision-language-action models and simulation-based training, then run proof-of-concept deployments of industrial robots, quadrupeds and humanoids in retail, logistics, manufacturing and services. KDDI frames physical AI as a priority response to projected Japanese labor shortages in manufacturing, construction and services by 2040.
