South Korea's Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries unveiled a "Maritime and Fisheries AI Transformation (AX) Strategy" covering shipping, ports and logistics, fisheries and the ocean environment, built on five strategic pillars and 15 core tasks. The plan targets core technology for Level 4 fully unmanned autonomous vessels by 2032 and leadership of a projected $200 billion global autonomous-ship market by 2035, while cutting maritime accident casualties 30 percent by 2030 and lifting port productivity 30 percent by 2035 through physical AI and agentic AI at facilities such as Gwangyang and Busan's Jinhae New Port. It also aims to raise smart aquaculture penetration from 3.7 percent to 10 percent by 2030 and apply AI to seafood supply-demand forecasting, illegal fishing monitoring and marine debris collection.
