In short
U.S.-bound containerized imports reached 2.63 million TEU in September, up 9.1% year over year, following a 2.3% gain in August, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence. Growth was driven by continued consumer goods demand against an easier tariff-disrupted comparison from September 2025, plus rising imports of electrical components, power equipment and telecom gear tied to AI data center buildouts. The firm expects fourth-quarter imports to rise 6.5% annually before slowing to a decline in the second quarter of 2027.
